专业概况

在这里学什么？

This program is designed for high performing SIU CCJ students. The benefit to the accelerated M.A. is that accepted students are permitted to double count 9 credit hours toward both the B.A. and M.A. degrees, allowing them to achieve a B.A. and M.A. in CCJ within about 5-years’ time. This not only produces time-savings, but means lower overall tuition costs for the student.

WHY DO IT?

Earning an M.A. more quickly than the traditional M.A. program can provide a competitive advantage to SIU CCJ students as they enter the job market.

For many criminal justice occupations, a Master’s degree can often serve as either a minimum requirement or a substitute for some length of relevant experience.

Many criminal justice agencies allocate for education pay – essentially, candidates are given additional salary because of their earned degree. The pay differential between someone with a Bachelor’s degree versus a Master’s degree can amount to several thousand dollars per year.

Many agencies require a Master’s degree for promotion within the job.

COURSE WORK

Course requirements include 4 core seminars below, plus 6-7 guided electives, and the capstone project.

CCJ 500 Foundations of Criminal Justice

CCJ 504 Criminological Theory

CCJ 510A Research Methods

CCJ 510B Introduction to Statistics

Students in the accelerated program are recommended to pursue the non-thesis track (requires 7 additional graduate electives and a non-thesis paper) versus the thesis track (6 other electives plus the thesis).

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants must have completed 2.7 (on a grading scale with 4.0=A; approximately a "B-" average) on the last two years of bachelor’s coursework; 3.0 on all previous graduate work (approximately a "B" average). English Language Requirement: 550 on the paper based TOEFL; 80 on the internet based TOEFL; 6.5 on the IELTS; 5.0 on the iTep Academic Plus Exam; C1 required on the Cambridge English Exam.
