At UON we equip biomedical scientists with the knowledge and skills to improve health outcomes within Australia and across the globe. Your studies will provide a solid foundation in the structure and function of the human body and facilitate practical opportunities to collaborate in scientific investigations. Your courses will focus on how biomedical scientists unravel biological, medical and health challenges. Our graduates are equipped to explore a variety of exciting careers.

What you will study

A Bachelor of Biomedical Science at the University of Newcastle will give you the opportunity to study a wide range of courses. You will be exposed to varying modes of study including face-to-face and online learning. We also offer plenty of hands-on experience in clinical laboratories and industry environments.

Students will study core courses in biomedical science that provide advanced theoretical knowledge in:

Majors

Medical/Health Professions

The Medical/Health Professions major is designed to prepare you for undergraduate or postgraduate health and medicine degrees, providing a strong grounding in the disciplines for professional clinical practice.

Advanced Medical Research

The Advanced Medical Research major will prepare students for work in medical or health roles where research is a core component of work. Whether your area of interest lay in the study of microbiology, anatomy or genomics, you will be exposed to in depth learning experiences, and have the opportunity to use state of the art research facilities.

Industry and Education

The Industry and Education major is for students whose aim is to contribute to science and innovation in commercial/industrial ventures, or by teaching the next generation of medical professionals. Students who study this major will gain a comprehensive education in biomedical science and be equipped with skills and knowledge in an array of emerging fields.

为来自中国的学生设计 There are a number of ways to gain entry to undergraduate programs at the University of Newcastle. You may be considered for admission on the basis of: a completed NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent – irrespective of age of qualification; completed or partly completed higher education studies; TAFE/VET qualifications, with a minimum of a completed Certificate III (AQF level 3), excluding the Bachelor of Nursing; TAFE/VET qualifications, with a minimum of a completed Certificate II (AQF level 2) in conjunction with meeting additional performance based selection criteria for the Bachelor of Music and associated combined degrees; completion of a recognised enabling program within a 10 year period preceding admission to the University; overseas qualifications equivalent to Australian studies. English language requirement: TOEFL paper-based test score of 500; TOEFL internet based score of 60; IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0; PTE GSE score of 50; Cambridge English: Advanced score of 52.
