Civil engineers design, build and maintain the physical world around us. Become a civil engineer, and you’ll be advancing and protecting the physical fabric of civilisation itself.

Our well-established and fully accredited Civil Engineering MSc will equip you with exceptional analytical and technical skills across a range of civil engineering disciplines, helping you pursue a highly successful career in the field of civil engineering.

Taught by research-active academics, together with practising engineers from consultancies and local authorities, this course will provide you with an excellent balance of academic and industry-relevant knowledge. The MSc is fully aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and puts emphasis on sustainability and resilience civil engineering infrastructure design and assessment.

What you will study

Our fully accredited MSc Civil Engineering will help you acquire advanced capabilities and in-depth knowledge across a range of civil engineering disciplines, including structural engineering, construction management, geotechnical engineering and water/environmental engineering, allowing you to tailor your degree according to your aspirations.

This course offers six study streams: bridge engineering, structural engineering, construction management, geotechnical engineering, water/environmental engineering and infrastructure management, sustainability and resilience engineering.

If you’re an engineer working in the construction industry and you hold a related degree, such as engineering geology or construction management, this course will provide you with the opportunity to expand on your existing knowledge and skills. It’s also designed to update the technical skills of practising engineers engaged in the planning, design, construction and operation of civil engineering works.

We offer careers information, advice and guidance to all students whilst studying with us, which is extended to our alumni for three years after leaving the University.

Our masters courses in civil engineering open up a huge range of career opportunities, not only with major consultancies and contractors but across other sectors such as management and business consultancy. Recent MSc graduates have been employed by Atkins, WSP, AECOM, Amey, Mott MacDonald, Laing O’Rourke, ARUP, Arcadis, Fluor, Capita Real Estate and Infrastructure, and Peter Brett Associates.

为来自中国的学生设计 To apply for one of our postgraduate courses that require a UK 2:1, the grade requirement depends on the institution you have studied at in China. Our usual requirement is 75% or 80% overall. For courses that require a UK 2:2, you must achieve 70% or 75% overall, depending on the institution at which you have studied, IELTS Academic: 5.5 overall with 5.0 in each component
