Why choose this course

Collecting, managing and analysing data is essential across many sectors – from finance to politics, and advertising to healthcare. This course will give you the advanced computation and mathematics skills you’ll need to work in the growing field of data science.

Designed in collaboration with industry and drawing on our leading research, our Data Science MSc will prepare you for a career as a data scientist, data analyst, data engineer, data architect or a business analyst.

This course uniquely addresses the fundamentals of data as well as the technical considerations needed to handle data with increasing scale and complexity.

What you will study

This course combines in-depth study of the theory and practice of data science with an optional year-long work placement, where you’ll get the chance to apply your knowledge to industry-relevant challenges. A placement also allows you to discover the business value of data-oriented research and development.

You’ll develop solid technical knowledge of data science principles and practices, machine learning and data mining, practical business analytics, database systems and cloud computing. You can also customise this course with optional modules in information security, sensors and artificial intelligence.

Finally, you’ll complete a dissertation where you can further explore an area that interests you. This is particularly useful if you’re aiming to progress to a PhD.

为来自中国的学生设计 To apply for one of our postgraduate courses that require a UK 2:1, the grade requirement depends on the institution you have studied at in China. Our usual requirement is 75% or 80% overall. For courses that require a UK 2:2, you must achieve 70% or 75% overall, depending on the institution at which you have studied, IELTS Academic: 5.5 overall with 5.0 in each component
