The news journalism major prepares you for jobs as a news reporter, editor, and page designer. While the program contains a large practical component with hands-on courses in news, reporting, copy editing, page layout, and desktop publishing, it also contains a strong theoretical component in courses that teach press history, ethics, and law.

Write articles on speculation for the Press-Republican, Plattsburgh’s daily newspaper Work as a reporter, photographer, section editor, copy editor, page designer, editorial cartoonist, graphic artist, and advertising designer for Cardinal Points Design publications for a variety of intended audiences

We teach theory and skills, but we balance them with an emphasis on practical experience. Public relations students participate in supervised practical experiences in the local community, while others take on internships around the world at public relations agencies, media firms, sports and entertainment concerns, healthcare institutions, government and non-governmental organizations, and major corporations.
