The Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Agriculture in Agricultural and Resource Economics/Rural Sociology, Master of Science in Agricultural and Resource Economics, Forest Economics, Rural Sociology, and Risk and Community Resilience.

Program Requirements

Students are required to complete a minimum of 18 in coursework and a thesis.

Coursework

Six 3 courses approved by the department

Students in agriculture and resource economics are required to take microeconomic theory, applied economics and econometrics. Students in environmental and rural sociology are required to take courses in sociological theory, qualitative methods and quantitative methods. Students in risk and community resilience are required to take qualitative methods and quantitative methods.

Four 3 courses must be at the graduate level

Professional Development and Ethics Requirements

Students are expected to participate in department and University professional development and ethics activities to comply with the University requirement of 8 hours of professional development and 8 hours of ethics activities. Students are also expected to participate in the department seminar series.

Length of Program

The time required to complete the MSc will vary with the individual candidate; qualified candidates should be able to complete the program in 24 months.

The maximum time to complete the thesis-based MSc program as set by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research is four years.

为来自中国的学生设计 The Faculty's minimum admission requirements for the master's thesis and course-based programs are a four year baccalaureate degree, or its academic equivalent, in physical education, kinesiology, recreation or another related degree, with a minimum admission grade point average of 3.0 on most 4.0 grading systems or B on most letter grading systems, based on the most recent two years of full time study (or equivalent).
